Who you'll deal with

There are four jobs between your call and a working door. This page says who does each one and what to expect from them.

Who answers when I call?

At any hour of any day, an automated assistant picks up, takes your name and number, and asks what the door is doing. A person then rings you back: within minutes if the door will not open or close or a car is stuck behind it, within the hour for anything else. That person sets the window and tells you who is coming.

Who comes to the house?

An independent garage door technician who works the part of Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Leander, Dripping Springs and Bastrop you live in. The first thing they do is pull the opener release and lift the door by hand, because thirty seconds of lifting tells them more than any description on the phone. Then they name the fault, the parts by cycle rating or model, the labour and the total, and wait for your yes. Most springs, cables, rollers and opener parts ride on the truck, so most repairs end in the same visit.

Who hangs a new door?

An installer, often the same technician. They measure the opening, talk through insulated steel against wood-look and windows against none, order the door, haul the old one away and hang the new one square and balanced. Replacing an overhead door on a one- or two-family home needs no City of Austin building permit according to Development Services; if your job is unusual or you are outside the city limits, the installer tells you whom to ask.

Who deals with the paperwork?

The booking desk. It logs the job, keeps the record of what was quoted and what was done, registers a new opener's warranty with its maker on request, and reschedules around the storm that rolls in at four. If the technician is tying an opener into an alarm system, the desk also reminds them that Texas DPS licensing applies to that part of the work, and a new hard-wired outlet is handed to a licensed electrician.

So who is actually doing the work?

Not the operator of this website. Austin Garage Door Tech is run locally in Austin as a booking service; the repairs and installs are done by independent technicians who take jobs through it, and we tell you which one before anyone is scheduled. The referral marketing disclosure spells out how that works, and the about page describes what a visit looks like.

Can I get a human instead of the recording?

Yes. Ask for a callback at any point in the call and a person phones you. The number is (737) 265-6723; email is hello@austingaragedoortech.com.

Door won't budge? Spring let go? Opener gone quiet?

A technician can usually be on your driveway today anywhere from Georgetown down to Dripping Springs and out to Bastrop. You hear the price first, and a quote on a new door or opener costs nothing.
